Washington Capitals goaltender Logan Thompson was named the NHL's Second Star of the Month for the month of January as he posted an 8-0-1 record with a 1.48 goals against average and a .947 save percentage with two shutouts. The 27 year old led the NHL in goals against average and save percentage in January and ranked tied for second in wins among goaltenders with at least six starts.

Thompson earlier in the month was named the NHL's First Star of the Week for the week ending Jan. 19. He recorded back to back shutouts on Jan. 14 vs. the Anaheim Ducks and Jan. 16 at the Ottawa Senators as part of a career long 198:22 shutout streak from Jan. 11-18.

Then the six foot four, 207 pound goaltender signed a six year, $35.1 million contract extension with the Capitals on Jan. 27 and closed out his month with a 32 save performance in his hometown of Calgary against the Flames in a 3-1 win.

Thompson will enter tonight's game against the Winnipeg Jets riding a six game winning streak and a 12 game point streak with an 11-0-1 record dating back to Dec. 22. LT has won his last 11 starts and his 12 game point streak is the fifth longest by a goaltender in franchise history. Over his last six starts, Thompson has a record of 6-0-0 with a 0.83 goals against average and a .969 save percentage and two shutouts.

Thompson is the first Capitals goaltender to earn NHL Three Stars of the Month honors since Braden Holtby in Feb. 2017 when he won the Third Star. In 28 games played this season, Thompson has a record of 23-2-3 with a 2.05 goals against average and a .927 save percentage with two shutouts. Thompson ranks tied for first in the NHL in save perentage, second in goals against average and third in wins.

Thompson will go up against Connor Hellebuyck tonight and LT noted via Tarik El-Bashir of Monumental Sports Network:

"I got the chance to meet him a couple of years ago at the All Star Game. He was a great guy to me. He's obviously been a tremendous goalie in this league for many years. He's more of a well established guy with a big career. I'm just excited to play against him tonight. I'm already excited to step on the ice with him. "
