The Washington Capitals trounced the St. Louis Blues 8-1 but lost in all the crazy offense that is eight goals was the stellar play of Logan Thompson. The goalie who was acquired over draft weekend from the Vegas Golden Knights was phenoemnal as he made 24 of 25 saves.

He only let one get past him and the Caps answered with seven goals to back him up. It improved Thompson's record to 7-0-0 making him the first Capitals goaltender to win their first seven games with the franchise.

After the game Capitals head coach Spencer Carbery told the media via Lou Korac of NHL.com:

"That was pretty impressive. I felt like we weathered the storm a little bit, it was tight early. We had to find our footing a little bit and (Thompson) made some big saves. Then we settled in the third period and we were able to take over the game and sustain it. "

On the offensive side of the ice Alex Ovechkin scored twice to up his goal total to 863 leaving him 31 shy of Wayne Gretzky's NHL record.

Connor McMichael scored twice. Jakob Chychrun and Michael Sgarbossa each notched a goal and an assist and Dylan Strome had a ha trick in the assist category with three. This was a massive response to a 4-2 defeat the night before against the Pittsubrgh Penguins.

The only goal Thompson alloed came to Scott Perunovich who scored his first goal in his 79th game. On the other side in the goaltending front, Jordan Binnington allowed eight goals on 27 shots for the Blues which downed their record to 7-8-0.

Back to Thompson as he bested Tomas Vokoun's six unbeaten starts in 2011. LT is 5-0-1 all time against the Blues. We'll have more on this big win in a bit.
