Washington Capitals defenseman Martin Fehervary will be participating in the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan as he was named to the preliminary roster for his native country of Slovakia.

Fehervary, 25, was drafted by the Caps in 2018 and has appeared in 299 games, becoming a key piece of the defensive corps in recent seasons. This past season, he played in 81 games while recording 5 goals, 20 assists, 139 hits, and 25 minutes in the penalty box.

Fehervary missed the playoffs this past season after suffering a leg injury against the New York Islanders on April 15, the second to last regular season game for the Caps. Fehervary suffered a torn meniscus and required surgery.

This will be the first Winter Olympics to feature NHL players since 2014 as the league decided to not allow its players to participate in the 2018 and 2022 Games. However, the league will be partaking in the 2026 and 2030 Games.

Because of that 12-year gap, many of the league's top players have yet to participate in the Olympics, which will make for great ratings and storylines heading into this Winter.

The rest of the Olympic rosters will be announced at a later date.
