New Faces, Big Impact: How the Capitals newcomers are shaping the early season
It's time to break down the performance of the new guys so far this season
The Washington Capitals added several newcomers this offseason. Let's take a look at them and break down the numbers.
Logan Thompson: The newcomer who was acquired from the Vegas Golden Knights during draft weekend is 5-0-0 with a 2.97 goals against average and a .894 save percentage. It stared with a 24 save outing against his former team and he never looked back as he also helped the Caps to wins over the New Jersey Devils, Philadelphia Flyers, the New York Rangers and the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Matt Roy: Acquired from the Los Angeles Kings, we have yet to get a glimpse of his play. Actually we got a brief glimpse on opening night before he left the game with a lower body injury. He has a plus/minus of -2.
Jakob Chychrun: He was acquired from the Ottawa Senators and recorded two goals and two assists for four points through eight games before being placed on injured reserve on Oct. 29.
Andrew Mangiapane: Acquired from the Calgary Flames, Mangiapane has three goals and one assist for four points. He had a goal and two shots during Saturday's win over the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Taylor Raddysh: He has two goals and three assists for five points. He had three assists in a row during the three game homestand that saw the Caps sweep the set. He comes from the Chicago Blackhawks and at 26 he's still got a lot of potential in him.
Pierre-Luc Dubois: With one goal and five assists for six points, PLD is forming line chemistry and a one two punch with Tom Wilson. That phsyciality as well as new surroundings have helped him. Now he just needs to score like Ovechkin. On defense he has recorded 10 blocks and 17 hits.
This all adds up to an 8-3-0 record with 16 points and a .727 point percentage. And the Caps are 8-2-0 in their last 10 games despite losing to the Carolina Hurricanes last night.
Next up for the Caps is a home game on Nov. 6 against the Nashville Predators before hosting the Pittsburgh Penguins on Nov. 8 and traveling to St. Louis on Nov. 9. They will then be off for three days before taking on Auston Matthews and the Toronto Maple Leafs. It's another challenging month ahead.
