The Washington Capitals are looking to bounce back from what was a disappointing end to the 2024-25 season. The one major highlight was Alex Ovechkin breaking the all-time goals scored record, which was previously held by Wayne Gretzky. This upcoming season, it may very well be his last, as he is set to become a free agent next summer.

Before the season, Oveckhin made an appearance at a Giant Foods supermarket in northwest Washington D.C. to unveil his new cereal, "Ovi's Great Crunch." Ovechkin was handing out boxes of cereal and pouring milk into bowls of cereal for young fans.

The boxes of cereal are selling for $2.99 each and will benefit charity, including Ovechkin's The Gr8 Chase for Victory Over Cancer fund, which is in partnership with the V Foundation and Hockey Fights Cancer, to help raise funds for pediatric cancer research.

"For the remainder of his career, Alex is personally donating to pediatric cancer research for each regular season goal he scores and his donations will be matched by Monumental Sports & Entertainment! 100% of funds raised go to lifesaving childhood cancer research through the V Foundation and Hockey Fights Cancer™," the fund's official mission statement says. "The donations raised will fund a childhood cancer research grant through the V Foundation in Ovechkin’s honor: the Alex Ovechkin GR8 Chase Pediatric Cancer Research Grant."

A great cause for Capitals fans to celebrate Ovechkin breaking what was seemingly an unbreakable record — the all-time goals scored record. Gretzky held it for over two decades. Ovechkin then went on a torrid pace, scoring 123 goals from 2021 until 2024. Then, this past season, Ovechkin scored 44 goals, and on his 42nd, he officially broke the record, with Gretzky applauding in the crowd in the Capitals' game against the New York Islanders.

This upcoming season, the Capitals are looking to win their second Stanley Cup title. This season is even more pivotal, as Ovechkin is on the final year of his contract. It's unknown if he is pursuing another contract or if he will bring an end to his NHL career.
