On Monday morning the Washington Capitals unveiled their concept and initiatives surrounding their upcoming 50th anniversary season. It's a big one coming up and the Caps are pulling out all the stops so all fans can enjoy this upcoming milestone season.

The logo pays tribute to the 1974-75 Capitals and their first sweater featuring the same woodmark and stick from the orginal logo in that inagural season. The patch was made in collaboration with FANBRANDZ and will be featured as a patch on the Capitals home and away jerseys this season.

With the news of Fanatics replacing Adidas as the official jersey provider of the NHL it appears the sweaters are the same unless there's something else up the sleeve. Either way all three posts in the photo paid homage to the storied history of the Capitals who have come a long way since that first season.

Jim Van Stone, the President of Business Operations and Chief Business Officer at Monumental Sports & Entertainment said in the press release:

""We are excited to launch a celebration of the Capitals' vibrant past and honor the history as we mark 50 years as an NHL franchise. Fans can anticipate several events and initiatives that will uniquely commemorate this milestone, and we are eager to share the celebration with our fanbase. We are also proud to highlight the Capitals' impact off the ice, including the franchise's contributions to the community and the growth of youth hockey in the region as we pay tribute to 50 years and embrace the future of Capitals hockey."
