Breaking down the second round of 2024 training camp roster cuts

On Sunday the Washington Capitals reduced their training camp roster to 31 players

The Washington Capitals announced on Sunday morning the following transactions.

Loaned to Hershey: Forward Zac Funk, Forward Alexander Suzdalev, Forward Bogdan Trineyev, Forward Pierrick Dube, Forward Henrik Rybinski, Defenseman Vincent Iorio, Defenseman Nicky Leivermann*, Defenseman Jake Massie*, Goaltender Clay Stevenson, Goaltender Mitch Gibson

The astersik notes they're on AHL contracts

Placed on waivers for purposes of loan to Hershey (September 28): Forward Ethen Frank, Forward Alex Limoges, Forward Riley Sutter, Defenseman Hardy Haman Aktell, Defenseman Chase Priskie

Returned to Junior Team: Ilya Protas (Windsor OHL)

Tarik El Bashir of Monumental Sports Network notes about the updated roster that with Nicklas Backstrom and T.J. Oshie on LTIR, the team is down to a much more manageable 29 players so training camp is now down to one group.

Goaltenders: Charlie Lindgren, Hunter Shepard, Logan Thompson

Shepard is also getting some looks in goal.

In other news on Friday the Caps signed forward Eriks Mateiko to a three year entry level contract that will carry an average annual value of $889,167.

The team drafted the 18 year old with the 90th overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft and he made his Caps debut against the Philadelpelphia Flyers on September 22.

The Caps will have a rematch with the Blue Jackets on Monday night at 7 p.m. on Monumental Sports Network in Columbus.
