Breaking down the upcoming goalie tandem of Charlie Lindgren and Logan Thompson

The Washington Capitals season inches closer and we learned over draft weekend the potential plan for goaltending which is always a hot question this time of year.

So far we know that Charlie Lindgren is back and Darcy Kuemper was traded for Pierre-Luc Dubois. We also know that Charlie Lindgren got the Caps into the playoffs which was important for the franchise overall.

But let's learn more about the 27 year old Logan Thompson. In the 2022-23 season he earned an All Star season but struggles with injuries led to extended time sitting out and that's when Brian MacLellan worked the phones to acquire Thompson's services from George McPhee.

Carbery recently spoke to Sammi Silber of The Hockey News on the goaltending matter, saying:

"It's not the NFL where there's a starter Day 1 and a backup. We'll look at it... How that plays out we'll see, but we feel like we're in a good situation with both goaltenders."

Even though it isn't the NFL let's break down the stats anyway.

Charlie Lindgren

Charlie Lindgren burst out in late October and throughout November to keep the Caps in the hunt. Around the holiday break when the team struggled and around the rough Janauary it was Lindgren who kept the Caps in the thick of things. And the Power of Friendship added all up to a playoff spot.

Lindgren went 25-16-7 last season with six shutouts, a 2.67 goals against average and a .911 save percentage. Him and his trusted glove Josie have been nothing but good luck charms. We'll see if Lindgren can emerge into his full potential soon.

Logan Thompson

Logan Thompson went 25-14-5 with one shutout, a 2.70 goals against average and a .908 save percentage last season and in his career is 56-32-11 with four shutouts, a 2.67 goals against average and a .912 save percentage.

Judging by just the stats alone and the upside, this was a good move by BMac to make the team better before handing the reigns off to Chris Patrick.
