Capitals attempt to bounce back in New Jersey tonight
Washington Capitals are searching for their first preseason win tonight at the New Jersey Devils
The Washington Capitals are 0-2-0 and still searching for that first preseason win. Tonight they'll get another crack at it against the New Jersey Devils. Here's how they'll line up via Tarik El-Bashir of Monumental Sports Network:
Ovechkin-Strome-Mangiapane
Duhaime-Dowd-Raddysh
Vrana-Sgarbossa-Limoges
Suzdalev-Sutter-Trineyev
Chychrun-Carlson
Alexeyev-TvR
Massie-McIlrath
Thompson
Gibson
Spencer Carbery says new goalie Logan Thompson is expected to play the entire game. Rasmus Sandin arrived from Sweden late last night and is in the facility today. He "could" be on the ice as soon as tomorrow per Carbery and he should be able to suit up for a preseason game or two so he'll be good to go for the regular season.
Carbery also said tonight's a big game for Jakub Vrana. He's still waiting for a forward to seize one of the last spots:
There's six preseason games and we're two in. It's starting to get to the point where... you can see the last two games being very close to our opening night lineup. So you're running out of bullets in the chamber. For all those guys in that competition for that 12th, 13th, 14th (forward spot)... I don't think anyone has necessarily played themselves out of that. But what I haven't seen is someone take the bull by the horns and own that spot, for example, Matt Phillips last year.
Per Amanda Stein of the New Jersey Devils, the team held a morning skate and you an expect a very heavy NHL roster lineup to hit the ice against the Caps. Won't be the full roster with them playing back to back but with all things considered it will be very close to it.
Here's how the opposition will line up:
Meier-Hughes-Bratt
Tatar-Hischier-Mercer
Palat-Haula-Nosen
MacDermond-Engaras-Stillman
Dillon-Hamilton
White-DeSimone
Misyul-Welinski
Markstrom
Allen
Stein notes that Erik Haula was in his normal spot but isn't sure as we're writing this if he's ready to play yet. She noted Haula is unlikely to play.
Puck drop for tonight is at 7 p.m. on Monumental Sports Network as well as Team 980 and Caps Radio 24/7. If you live outside the DC market you can catch the game on NHL Network.
