The Washington Capitals fell to the Boston Bruins in their second game of the preseason by a final count of 4-2. Riley Tufte struck first at 11:51 in the first period. In the second at 2:59 was a goal from Fabian Lysell then Patrick Brown struck at 9:46 to make it 3-0.

Connor McMichael would then strike for his first goal of the preseason at the 11 minute mark with assists coming from newcomer Pierre-Luc Dubois and Tom Wilson.

Just Brazeau made it 4-1 at 2:12 before Andrew Cristall scored in garbage time at 19:16 for his second goal of the preseason. The assists came from Henrik Rybinski and Pierrick Dube.

Shot totals in the first were 7-5 in favor of Boston but knotted at 6-6 in the second. The Caps put up more shots in the third 11-6 while shots were in favor of the Caps overall 22-19.

It was not a good game from Hunter Shepard who went the distance after he stopped 11 of 14 shots in Sunday's preseason opener against the Phileadelphia Flyers. There were some moments in the game where he struggled to track shots and keep up with the play.

Though the score was not close he did make better saves than he did on Sunday but he definitely was held left to dry on some of the goals which means the defense needs to improve. The third pairing of Chase Priskie and Vincent Iorio had their share of woes but Iorio did show strong flashes of puck movement but the pair was on the ice for all four Bruins goals.

But a big positive from the game was the line chemistry from McMichael-Dubois-Wilson as they got on the board together. Nevermind that the score was already 3-0 in favore of the Bruins, it was a nice goal scored by Mikey.

The Caps will try again tonight in New Jersey against an improved Devils team. You can catch it at 7 p.m. on Monumental Sports Network as well as NHL Network.
