The Washington Capitals fell to the Winnipeg Jets by a final of 3-0 to begain their brutal five game road trip in the aftermath of a dominant two game stretch. The Caps will play on Wednesday night slightly after 10 on TNT and MAX. That'll be in Edmonton against the Oilers.

Neal Pionk struck at 10:05 in he first period. Alex lafallo made it 2-0 at 8:16 in the second. Kyle Connor rounded out the scoring at the 10 minute mark of the third period while goaltender Connor Hellbuyck made 23 saves for his fourth shutout of the season edging Charlie Lindgren who got the start in goal for Washington.

The Jets outshot the Caps 12-5 in the first while the Caps outshot them 11-8 in the second period. In the third the Caps were outshot 9-7 as well as overall 29-23. T.J. Oshie made his return back from an upper body injury inflicted in Tampa Bay last month.

That's a simple way to put it by Spencer Carbery. Either way the Caps got to put this behind them and focus on their rematch with the Oilers. They'll get a rematch with the Jets either way and that comes on March 24 at Capital One Arena.

After tonight's results the Capitals sit three points back of the fourth place New York Islanders and second place wild card Detroit Red Wings while five back of the Flyers for third in the Metro Division. Isles are thrid in the wild card race. Caps are fourth.

So not out of it mathematically but they have to put this one behind them and focus on the next game. This is their own version of March Madness. Win and scoreboard and standings watch. It comes with the territory of being a good franchise for over a decade. Ah the Ovi effect.
