The Washington Capitals held a morning skate at MedStar Capitals Iceplex ahead of their big tilt against the Detroit Red Wings at 7 p.m. from Capital One Arena.

So this happened via Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post on X at the tail end of morning skate.

Note to those who have work during morning skate, when you're the first goalie off the ice that means you're in. But if you're going to the game tonight you're getting a Darcy Kuemper bobblehead either way. You just won't see him in net unless Charlie Lindgren has a bad night.

Johnson also reported that Sonny Milano took the scratches skate. He left Sunday's game with an upper body injury in the first period. Tom Wilson is in the third game of his six game suspension so he was out there too. As was Ethan Bear who is the healthy scratch on defense tonight.

While Milano did take the scratches skate he has NOT been ruled out, per Tarik El-Bashir of Monumental Sports Network:

Milano had his first career hat trick in Friday nights crazy division win over the Carolina Hurricanes. If you're a scoreboard watcher tonight's Philadelphia Flyers vs. New York Rangers game has big implications on the Caps.

If the Blueshirts get a win in regulation at The Garden and the Caps get two points it vaults the Caps back to third in the Metropolitan Division thanks to that win over the Flyers earlier this month.

Obviously we all know if the Caps get two points they're in cruise control with the playoffs looming. There will be just 11 games left when the night ends. The matchups won't get easy but it's the Capitals own version of March Madness survive and advance. Only in their case, it's survive and stay survived.
