Nic Dowd will not be traveling with the Washington Capitals as they travel to Florida over the upcoming weekend. Tonight's machup is with the Tampa Bay Lightning but before we dive into that matchup here's the Dowd update from Tarik El-Bashir of Monumental Sports Network:
Carbery says Dowd is day-to-day with an upper body injury that he suffered first period last night against NJD. He will not travel to Tampa Bay or Florida so he’s out for a least the next two games. #ALLCAPS

That's as far as we know with "day to day' which can mean anything these days. But it looks like Aliaksei Protas will slot into the center position on the fourth line which should shore up that bottom six.
With Dowd out, Carbery says Protas will move to center—a position the big forward has played a bit in the past. Carbery also says he wants to see how Protas handles playing in the middle. #ALLCAPS

The 2019 3rd rounder has four goals and 18 assists for 22 points and he was drafted as a center. At the beginning of the draft I'm sure fans asked "why so many centers?". Well it was in case something like this happens for a team chasing a playoff spot.
So the Caps had to make a corresponding move to accommodate the roster for the road trip. They did so by calling up Pierrick Dube who leads the Hershey Bears with 24 goals this season. He signed the entry level contract with the Caps on July 2nd of last year so no he was not on the Calder Cup team but he is on the team that's trying to repeat. And the Hershey Bears are stacked.
