Next up on our Washington Capitals player report card series is Martin Fehervary, who signed a contract extension just last year. He was reliable as his partner was everchanging with all the injuries. Fehervary ended up suiting up for 66 games recording three goals and 13 assists while averaging 19.6 minutes of ice time.

Natural Stat Trick

In the regular season Fehervary had a corsi for percentage of 47.27 percent, a 48.09 expected goals for percentage and a 48.96 high danger chances for percentage in the regular season. When he was partnered up with John Carlson their corsi for percentage was at 48.90 percent while their expected goals for percentage was at 51.42 percent and his high danger chances for percentage was at 52.77 percent.

In the playoffs, Fehervary's corsi for percentage dropped to 43.38 percent while his expected goals for percentage was at 40.62 percent along with a 39.13 percent high danger chances for percentage.

Key stat for Marty

They key stat that Becca from Japers' Rink talks about is that he led all defensemen with 188 hits and only trailed Tom Wilson (228) and Beck Malenstyn (241) among all Caps skaters in the hit department. The hottest question is that if John Carlson is able to come back this upcoming season, has Fehervary earned that spot next to him.

Based on the eye test we see that the two can gell so it'll ultimately come down to training camp to see if Fehervary can pick up where he left off. After all he's only 24 and won't turn 25 until six days before opening night.

Fehervary was hurt back in March but his return at the right time helped steer the Capitals into the playoffs. They did what they had to do down the stretch and after representing Slovakia at Worlds is gearing up for the upcoming season ahead.

Grade B: Have to give Marty a B. We were relieved the Caps re-signed him last summer and it was the right call. He proved his reliability and we haven't even seen him reach his ceiling yet.
