Martin Fehervary 2023-24 Report Card
Martin Fehervary day
We are just 85 days away from Washington Capitals hockey if you're reading this to kickoff your weekend so let's have a Marty Party by grading the performance of Martin Fehervary this past season. It was another odd season for a banged up defense as his partner in crime was always hurt.
He's got the wagon with three goals and 13 assists in 66 games while averaging 19.6 minutes of ice time a game. He also has a 47.3 five on five shot attempt percentage, a 48.8 expected goals for percentage and a 42.9 actual goals percentage at five on five.
Fans were pretty happy overall given the workload of sharing a pairing with John Carlson, who dealt with injury issues throughout the season but still reached his 1,000th game played. It's not an easy job and neither is this grade.
Fehervary has good speed, just a hair below the league average per NHL Edge, and he also has a top shot speed of 141.55 miles per hour. The 24 year old turns 25 by the time the puck drops on 7th and F street when the Capitals host the New Jersey Devils for their season opener.
Grade B+: These are the hardest ones to grade but I thought Fehervary brought it when he was available. It's up to him to elevate his game as the Capitals enter their 50th season and a lot of history in the past and in the upcoming future.
Nobody knows what's going to happen to John Carlson. We just hope that as a dad he continues to get the offseason treatment that he needs. But if he decides to hang it up, none of us will forget the impact he had on that Capitals defense throughout the Rock the Red era. Fehervary is now one of the faces of the Young Guns 2.0.
