Ryan Leonard continues to tear it up at Boston College
The Caps number one prospect is simply him.
We always talk about Alex Ovechkin, Dylan Strome, T.J. Oshie, and others here at Stars and Sticks. But we hardly mention prospects unless its Hershey Bears news. But let's dig deeper into the Washington Capitals pipeline and check in on their new young stud: the #8 pick Ryan Leonard from last year's NHL Draft.
No the Capitals didn't tank for Connor Bedard but the tank worked to perfection as Leonard fell into the laps of Ross Mahoney, Brian MacLellan, and company. He was a star for Team USA 18U and then carried his talents to Boston College. And schools in the Boston area do hockey in tradition like Virginia colleges do with football and basketball.
So if you live in the Boston area and you just so happen to be a Caps fan let's just say the BC tickets are much cheaper than the Bruins, at least right now as I write when I scouted the ticket market. But there's like three home games left so no trips to Boston yet. BUT if he does stay another year we'll highly consider going up to watch him play or at least one of us. We all have a friend or two in the area. It's not what you know it's who you know.
This past Sunday one week after the Super Bowl, Leonard had an incredible game against an in state rival. Think Commonwealth Cup if you're from Virginia between Virginia Tech and UVA. Basically the equivilent of that in a tiny arena. You get the idea.
Boston College would go on to win over UMass by a final score of 6-4 and Leonard recorded his first career hat trick. That included two goals in the span of 58 seconds to be exact midway through the thrid period with the home team trailing 4-3. Oh and it gets crazier when you break down his statistics further.
In that World Juniors tournament that saw them win he had six points in seven games with three goals and three assists. So far this season in 29 games with BC he has 21 goals and 20 assists for 41 points.
Breaking it down further via BC's official X account, Leonard has seven goals in his last four games which also includes a combined five goals over the weekend. Don't make anybody cringe by saying the future is bright but it might be.
