Next up on our Washington Capitals report card series we'll grade the performance of Sonny Milano, the man with the best hair and what we believe was the best giveaway in all of the NHL this past season in the chia pet.

Milano turned out having his best season as a member of the Caps. In 49 games he had 15 goals and eight assists for 23 points. Those 15 goals are a career high. The left winger who just turned 28 did go quiet in the last five games which included the playoff sweep.

Milano also had a plus/minus of +4 with two game winning goals while averaging 12:30 minutes of ice time a night.

The analytics

Milano ended up, per Natural Stat Trick, finishing with a 48.05 percent corsi for percentage, a 51.17 percent expected goals for percentage which is really good as well as a 49.20 percent high danger chances for percentage.

Bascially corsi for percentage means to measur ethe shot attempt differential while at five on five play. Expected goals for means what you expect it to mean. Milano is not afraid to get to the net which is what you need with a veteran laden team like the Capitals.

High danger scoring chances for means he can take the shot when there's an uneven rush at five on five when the Caps are attacking the net.

Luke Adomanis over at Japers' Rink noted that the one bad was his lack of ice time which we nod our heads and agree with. Via Evolving Hockey he played just 11:22 minutes of ice time per game at five on five. That's not quite the way you can get a young player to develop their potential.

Grade B: Milano proved that he can score the question heading into next season is will Spencer Carbery increase Milano's five on five ice time.
