Next up on our Washington Capitals report card series we made a miscalclulation. We actually have two players left to grade and next up is none other than Tom Wilson. After signing an extension last summer, Wilson recorded 18 goals and 17 assists for 35 points which was his best season since the 2021-22 season.

Wilson turns 30 this March and him and his wife finally had a baby. He's also been recognized among the DC community as someone who isn't afraid to give back. On the ice he isn't afraid to lay out a hit or create an impacting offensive play. And he does it against cities that adore him back (sarcasm). He also had a goal and two assists for three points in the first round exit against the New York Rangers.

Natural Stat Trick

Wilson's corsi for percentage came out to 50.29 percent, his expected goals for percentage finished out to 50.03 percent, and his high danger chances for percentage came out to 50.92 percent in the regular season at five on five play. His corsi for percentage at five on five in the playoffs was at 53.85 percent while his expected goals for percentage was at 63.55 percent and his high danger chances for finished up at a whooping 68.75 percent.

Oh and in the hit department Wilson continued to go beast mode. He finished the season with 228 hits overall which was his best since the 2021-22 season when he had 240. His 133 penalty minutes were the most since the 2016-17 season.

Recently the Caps announced Wilson as the recpipient of the Inagural Caps Care Community Award as the Monumental Sports and Entertiment Foundation donated $10,000 to parent project muscular dystrophy. He was honored before a big game against the Boston Bruins which the Caps would go on to win en route to the playoffs.

Final Grade A+: Wilson had a good season and did a lot off the ice to cement his name in this city. He's got six years left of his seven year deal so here's hoping he can continue his dominance in the NHL.
