The Washington Capitals did not load up at the trade deadline but in the aftermatch of trading Anthony Mantha, Joel Edmundson and Evgeny Kuznetsov, the Caps did acquire a total of five daft picks in those three seprate deals. They stocked up on one second, two thirds, one fourth, and one fifth.
The Caps now own 26 total picks in the next three drafts, including 14 in the first thre rounds. In the 2024 NHL Draft this upcoming summer the Caps will have eight picks. In 2025 there will be 10 picks while 2026 rounds out with eight picks.
Here's the draft order of the first two rounds via Tankathon:
1st round (17th)
2nd round (53rd)
Round 3 (three picks)
Round 4 (one pick)
Round 5 (one pick)
Round 6 (one pick)
So the Caps have three third round picks this year but none in the seventh round while having one in each of the other five rounds.
Caps own their first, third, fourth, fifth and sixth rounders in 2024 as well as Vegas second round pick, Boston's third round pick, and the New York Islanders third rounder this summer. Complete hesit someone call on GMBM for highway robbery.
In 2025 the Caps own third first, second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth round picks as well as Colorado's second rounder, Boston's second rounder, Carolina's third rounder, and Chicago's fifth rounder. In 2026 the Caps will have all seven of their picks along with the Golden Knights fourh rounder.
Either way it'll make for an interesting and busy summer for Brian MacLellan whether the Caps either make or miss the playoffs. Even if it's a Stanley Cup or a first round exit, that's still a ton of scouting for the next three years. Gotta start researching on Elite Prospects and others now.
