Washington Capitals announce Screaming Eagle is officially back on Alex Ovechkin's birthday

The Washington Capitals made a big annnouncment on their social media as the Screaming Eagle is offically back for the 50th anniversary of Caps hockey.

The jersey will debut on Nov. 6 against the Nashville Predators and the jersey features a blue, black and bronze color scheme with the Capitol building displayed on the shoulder and is reminiscent of the the Caps jersey that was first introduced in 1995.

Per the press release from the Caps, it combines their first ever third jersey plus the original rebrand. The screaming eagle preying in the downward direction is meant to evoke an eagle's energy, power, and speed, chosen for it's symbolic status as the national bird of the United States.

The shoulder patch includes the Capitol building in front of two crossed hockey sticks and the logo was completed with two stars in the background and the hockey puck nestled in the blades of the sticks.

The game dates the jersey will be worn include: Wednesday, Nov. 6th vs. Nashville Predators, Friday, Nov. 29th vs. New York Islanders, Tuesday Dec. 31st vs. Boston Bruins, Saturday Jan. 18 vs. Pittsburgh Penguins, Saturday Feb. 1st vs. Winnipeg Jets, Sunday April 13th vs. Columbus Blue Jackets.

The jerseys will be available online at NHLShop.com, NHLShop.ca and shop.monumentalsportsnetwork.com as well as the MedStar Capitals Iceplex store and the Capital One Arena Team Store beginning on Thursday Oct. 10.

Fans that are attending the Oct. 10 50 Fest presnted by TikTok at Capital One Arena featuring Third Eye Blind are encouraged to check out the team store and purchase jerseys for the event and the comemorative 50th anniversary season.

With the celebration of 50 years of Capitals hockey right around the corner, this will be a sure way to get fans fired up and ready for the season. The last time the Caps wore the black screaming eagle jersey, Ovechkin scored in each game including the historic 802 mark.

Now with the Greai Eight on a chase towards greatness the screaming eagle jersey hopes to carry the torch as he tries to break a record many once thought was impossible.
