Washington Capitals News: Carl Hagelin days away from the season
With just 62 days away from the season, what's going on in hockey land?
Recently I gave a watch of the Netflix show Open Heart. I'm still in the middle of the show but loved the cameos of the Washington Capitals during the documentary. We gotta be more positve everywhere we go is the bottom line.
Yesterday it was pretty sad news that our hero Evgeny Kuznetsov is no longer playing in the NHL but in good news, Alex Ovechkin still keeps in contact with Kuzy. They're bascially like brothers. That's the power of friendship right there.
Alex Ovechkin and his son Sergei were recently on the ice in a charity KHL game doing some father and son bonding time.
Per a DeepL translation by Sammi Silber of The Hockey News, Ovi said this:
"I have a great relationship with Kuzy, everything's good. I saw him in Novogorsk and wished him luck."
Kuznetsov as we know won the Capitals a Stanley Cup and was in the Conn Smythe Trophy conversation but the Great Eight would ultimately capture that prize. But there's nothing better than beating the Penguins. And that's exactly what Kuzy did six years ago.
Kuznetsov thought about a KHL transfer for the last part as the trade rumors heated up. He ultimately decided that would be best for him and his family and to allow his kids to see the good side of Kuznetsov.
Ovi would add later in the interview with MatchTV:
"Everyone has his own head on his shoulders, everyone makes his own decisions. He made a decision together with his family to come and play with SKA. I can only wish him success."
Kuznetsov spent 11 years with the NHL and played in every Caps game until the trade deadline inched closer recording 171 goals and 397 assists for 568 points over that stretch.
Sadly the rhemuuatoid arthratis was too severe and the relationship sadly ended. But I'm sure during the Stanley Cup reunion we will see that Kuznetsov smile once again. After all, he's a funny character.
In other news, Caps coach Spencer Carbery recently spoke with Silber about the goaltending tandom of Charlie Lindgren and Logan Thompson saying this about Chuck:
"Chucky has earned a lot of credibility with our coaching staff and with his teammates."
Trading Darcy Kuemper allowed Chuck to enter training camp as the number one starter, that is, unless Logan Thompson has something to prove. The 27 year old from Vegas has a lot of upside.
