Dylan Strome has that dog in him meaning he knows greatness when he sees it. He's had a front row seat to it the last two years and is ready and already picturing being on the ice when Alex Ovechkin has a chance at breaking an NHL historic record as early as this season. The Washington Capitals captain is 42 goals away from breaking the record.
Strome assisted on Alex Ovechkin's 801st goal on Dec. 23, 2022 which tied the captain with Gordie Howe. Strome talked to Dave McCarthy of NHL.com and said this:
""Yes, of course I have thought about it. I think everyone has. Everyone remembers (Marty) McSorley to Gretzky for the 802nd goal (when he passed Howe. It's history and (Ovechkin) talks about the a lot, it's part of hockey lore. I got an assist on (Ovechkin's) Gordie Howe tying goal and not many people will remember that one if he breaks the record but it would be really cool to be a part of.""Dylan Strome to NHL.com
Strome was also optimistic about Ovi's chances adding:
""I definitely think so. There's been a lot more seasons of 40 plus goal for him than there have been without 40 plus goals for him. Everyone counted him out throughout 40 games last year and he really took off in the second half, so I'd expect a lot of the second half 'Ovi' that we got last year. We are all waiting for it, and we'll be ready. I'll be looking to pass to him of course.""Strome
Tomorrow we'll be exactly 50 days away from the Caps 50th anniversary season. Some exciting times are ahead. Everyone can feel the fall in the air including the Great Eight himself. Strome elaborated more on Alex Ovechkin the person behind the visor.
""I think he's very, very humble and when it comes to what he's done in his career, he's very humble and very appreciative of his teammates. I've noticed the the last couple years where even if I is a record-setting goal he gets, a 50th goal, his 800th goal, he's always thanking other people first and giving credit to other people first. Of course he thinks about the (all time) record. He's going to maybe be the greatest goal scorer in the history of the NHL so we're in it with him and hopefully this year.""Strome
Seeing that vote of confidence from Strome is refreshing and shows how strong the power of friendship this team has.
