The Washington Capitals continued to hit the ice for informal skates on Tuesday morning with some familiar faces that even moved on. Monumental Sports Network's Tarik El-Bashir posted a video on X of Matt Roy and Logan Thompson working out with John Carlson and Alex Alexeyev. Former Caps were there too like Anthony Mantha, Nick Jensen, and Nicolas Aube-Kubel.

Speaking of making leagues with the skyrocketing rise of woman's sports, Hendrix Lapierre recently bought a share of the new professional woman's soccer team DC Power FC. You can check out more of Michele Kettner's story here.

Back to Alex Ovechkin as he gears up for another big season closing in on the all time goals record. He recently spoke to R-Sport about it. Via Sammi Silber of The Hockey News, Ovi said:

"I don't know what's even going to happen there. Yes we want to play in the Olympics, but if they won't let us, what do we do?"

15 Russians recently participated in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris as "Individual Neutral Athletes."

"We'll see. It's not like I'm in the leadership of the NHL. The NHL Players' Association and the NHL are different things."
Ovechkin

The Great 8 participated in three Olympic games. First in 2006 in Turin, 2010 in Vancouver and 2014 in Sochi. He first played on the international stage at the senior level with Russia in the 2004 IIHF World Championship.

He hopes to reach the record over the course of the next two years but if he gets 42 then the all time goals record is shattered.

Back to Lapierre and the soccer team he just bought a share of. The USL Super League is a woman's soccer league that runs from the fall to the summer to allow players to represent their countries on the national level and participate in the women's transfer market.

This upcoming season will feature eight teams and up to eight more could join in 2025 or later. They'll play their games at Audi Field which is home to D.C. United and the Washington Spirit. The first home game takes place on September 13.

Fredric Brillant is the head coach of the club and took the opportunity back in May. He hung up his cleats recently in 2022, joining the staff at Loudoun United FC and eventually, D.C. United as an assistant coach and a brief time as head coach. He's also been an assistant coach for NWSL's Utah Royals.
