The Washington Capitals season inches closer and while NFL players have their pads on for the preseason, a couple fresh faces began to trickle into town. Among them were new goaltender Logan Thompson and new defensemen Matt Roy.

The Caps tweeted out a picture not too long ago as we were writing this.

We are 61 days away from the season beginning. Whether you like the new practice jerseys or not, the season will be here as well as training camp before we know it.

In other Caps news via Sammi Silber of The Hockey News, several NHL players including former Caps defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler played in a hockey game above sea level.

Dubbed the "World's Highest Hockey Game", Siegenthaler represented along with Nico Hischier and Nino Niderreiter. All the Swiss players along with players from SC Bern played in the highest accessible point in Europe: the top of Jungfraujoch, a saddle in the Bernese Alps that sits 4,545 meters above above sea level.

Siegenthaler's team would win 6-5 in the Bernese Alps was the backdrop of this epic outdoor game. It took place on synthetic ice with players skating on SHARKBLADES which are synthetic skate blades that are used off ice and made with ball bearings to provide the on ice feel.

Siegs was a 2015 second rounder and spent the first years of his career with the Caps before he got traded to the New Jersey Devils during the 2020-21 season.

Also on the X/Twitter Travis Tuthill notes that only 15 players that started their career in the 2000's have over 1,000 points and that Nicklas Backstrom is one of them.

GLaSnoST9 recently asked Monumenal Sports Network's Capitals Insider Tarik El-Bashir about the possibility of the Caps getting another outdoor game. He would say the following:

"I haven't heard if they're getting another one; the league keeps that stuff close to the vest. What I know is they've got a star player who has two more years on his contract and needs 42 goals to break a record that was once thought to be untouchable. To me, it make sense to do something special as Ovi closes in on Wayne Gretzky's all-time goals mark. Will that something materialize? And if it does, what form might it take? Not sure."
