The Caps and now the Red Wings are chasing the New York Islanders for that second and final wild card playoff spot. Both New York and Detroit have 72 points while the Caps are just behind each team at 69. There's only four games on the NHL slate tonight and none of the matchups are eastern conference.

So the bottom line is we won't be able to scoreboard watch as much as we'd all like to but maybe that's not a bad thing. The Caps vs. Oilers game will be the second game of TNT's NHL doubleheader as first up is the Los Angeles Kings and St. Louis Blues at 7:30 p.m.
