The Washington Capitals begin a new week and a new calendar year with a big division rivlary game with the Pittsburgh Penguins. After losing four in a row, the Caps are determined to start 2024 off on the right foot.

Before departing for the steel city the Capitals held a practice on New Years Day at MedStar Capitals Iceplex. Martin Fehervary was on the ice wearing a normal jersey and skating alongside John Carlson on the top pair.

Fehervary is TBD as of this writing. The Caps have an optional skate at 11:30 a.m. T.J. Oshie is day to day with an upper body injury. Sonny Milano is week to week with an upper body injury. Charlie Lindgren is day to day with an upper body injury.

As for Max Pacioretty, he is targeting a return in the next week.
