What is a point in hockey as a personal statistic?
Time for some more Hockey 101 as we gear up for season 50 of the Washington Capitals
We've been getting a lot of new readers to the site and some kind old folks who still read us. So let's do a refresher course on some hockey 101. Today's topic for Washington Capitals fans isn't just what a point is but it's what can a point be as a personal statistic.
So it's pretty simple really. If you win in the NHL you garner two points but if you lose in overtime in the regular season both teams split the point. But as far as personal statistics go, you can garner a point either from a goal or an assist.
The Caps recently announced a learn to play Hockey program for girls ages 4-9 on Saturday September 14 and you can check out the release here.
Also a very happy birthday to our favorite pups Captain and Biscuit. Captain has been with the Caps since 2019 and just turned five years old. He's been with his handler Mark G., a marine veteran, where he continues to make an impact.
Also if you have Monumental be sure to check out from Alex to Ovi where the Caps chronical the great eights journey to becoming the player that he is today.
We are less than Peirre Luc-Dubois days from the season beginning. There's no denying the effect that both Ovechkin and Oshie had on the game of hockey and the sport itself. Caps Youth Hockey also announced the Rising Stars Academy which is led by head coach of Tennessee State Daunte Abercrobie and Bryan King. It'll also feature Hall of Fame legend Angela James.
The event is focused on skill development for players of color ages 9-17 and you can learn more at CapsYouthHockey.com/RisingStars.
And if you're playing street hockey don't forget to hydrate. That of course is the most important rule. Ovechkin and Oshie actually didn't lead the Caps in points last season. It was Dylan Strome that did with 67 but Alex Ovechkin and John Carlson were right behind them. As was Tom Wilson.
