The Washington Capitals take on the Winnipeg Jets tonight at 8 p.m. eastern on Monumental Sports Network. Spencer Carbery noted after morning skate that defenseman Jakob Chychrun will be a game time decision. That being said if you play fantasy you should add Rasmus Sandin to your lineup.
Enter Sandin
Rasmus Sandin could see an increased role if Jakob Chychrun is indeed absent from tonight's game. More on him in a second. Jason Chen of The Hockey News noted this about Sandin:
"Jakob Chychrun's status is questionable for this game after getting cut by a skate on Saturday. Should Chychrun sit out, look for Sandin to take over on PP2. He's had a very quiet but solid season for one of the best teams in the league, and his play is trending up with six helpers in his past 10 games. This is not an easy matchup and it might be a low-scoring, grinding affair, but the Jets have also been uncharacteristically poor defensively, allowing 14 goals in their past three games. Sandin's an option for PP2 upside in deeper leagues. "Jason Chen/The Hockey News
Sandin has four goals and 23 assist for 27 points in 70 games played. He is on the verge of a second career 30 point season. The Caps morning skate was optional and just prior to it, Chychrun was signed to an eight year, $72 million contract extension.
With a cut on his wrist that he suffered in Saturday's win against the Flordia Panthers, Chychrun missed Monday's practice but skated Tuesday. We'll wait and see at warmups if he's indeed on the ice or if someone like Alex Alexeyev will step into action.
Chychrun talked about his contract extension to assembled media and said he wanted to give his wrist ago. He also talked about the contract. Per Tom Guliti of NHL.com:
"I think up to a few days ago, talks were pretty slow and pretty quiet which was also kind of nice because I wasn't thinking about it much because there just wasn't much going on. And then in the last couple of days, it got done. So we're very happy. "Jakob Chychrun
