Washington Capitals owner and chairman of Monuemntal Sports and Entertainment, Ted Leonsis has done a lot for the team and the city of D.C. On Thursday night his Caps defeated the Nashville Predators to catapult him to his 1,000th career win as team owner.

Since acquirng the purchase of the Capitals in 1999, Leonsis' Caps caputred the Stanley Cup in 2018, three Presidents Trophies in 2010, 2016 and 2017, 18 playoff appearances which is tied for first in the NHL as well as most divsiion titles in the NHL with 12 since the 1999-00 season.

Leonsis said on his X account in the aftermath of the milestone

"Today the Capitals celebrate 1,000 wins since our ownership group took over the team 25 years ago. Reflecting on the past 25 seasons of #ALLCAPS hockey, it's incredible what this team has accomplished! We have some of the best players, coaches, and staff in league history to thank for getting us to this milestone. We have the best fans in the world, and we couldn't have done it without you. Here's to the next 1,000 wins. Go Caps! "

Leonsis was given a game puck in the aftermath of the win last night which the Caps won in the Screaming Eagle jersey with Alex Ovechkin presenting him with it. Perfect fasion as the two have been a perfect marriage as Leonsis took care of Ovechkin since getting the opportunity to draft him in June 2004.

After receiving it, Leonsis would say in the locker room in a team speech:

"You know I love you guys. I love the team. I love the community, and I'm really, really proud of you. And this is a big moment. So 25 years, thousand wins. Let's do it again! "

This was a big win for Leonsis who just weeks ago annouced a big rennovation project coming to Capital One Arena. This after the city and building agreed to remodel and upgrade it as opposed to moving across the river to Alexandria. In the end, it was the righ decision in our opinion.

Leonsis was the second fastest to reach the 1K mark as an owner, being beat out by Jermy Jacobs of the Boston Bruins. He has kew and worked with current head coach Spencer Carbery since the 2011-12 season when Carbs was with the South Carolina Stingrays.

"It's been impressive because I've ben able to, not just from being here two years, I remember this back in South Carolina when I was starting in 2011-12 coming up here and just noticing little things about the organization. You can just tell when you're around the people in this organization, it starts right at the top, how they treat people, their work ethic, their commitment to excellence, their care for the community. You just feel it in our entire organization: it starts with him. "
Spencer Carbery

Leonsis next project besides being their along the roller coaster that is the GR8 Chase and pursuit of more excellence for the Caps, is the revamp Capital One Arena and it's coming in the form of a $515 million renovation, a project that will span three years. Hey, they say Rome wasn't built in a day but big things are coming.
