In the 50-year franchise history of the Washington Capitals, they have played the most games against the Pittsburgh Penguins - 251. They have won 110 of those games. That makes it a little extra special that this could be the last year we see an Ovechkin v. Crosby matchup.

Slightly more obscure; the plus/minus can be a bit of a throw away stat. And it tends to average out over time. As one might expect, a high plus is really good. For example, Alexei Protas set the Capitals +/- record last season at a +40, thirteen points ahead of the next highest, Pierre Luc Dubois.

Unfortunately for Bill Mikkelson, he set the record for all-time worst in the NHL: -82 during the 1974-1975 season with the Capitals. Even worse, he accomplished this feat in only 59 games.

Dylan Strome, the Capitals resident statistician, led the team last season in points during the regular season, at 82. AND led the team in assists, at 53. He also played all 82 regular season games, but he is joined in that by Nic Dowd, Connor McMichael, Pierre Luc Dubois, Rasmus Sandin, Brandon Duhaime, and TVR. Additionally, Strome led in playoff points in 2025 as well, with a total of 11 in ten games. Tom Wilson took runner-up with 7.

With numbers like these, high and low alike, the 2025-26 season is measuring up to be something to see. And, dare I say it, without the glare of Ovi's shot record, the guys may be able to keep their eye more firmly on the prize.
