What a night Washington Capitals fam. It was a big win and there were six goals scored in the victory. It's time to salute the top 3 studs from the win. Those who rose to the occassion and protected the District.

#3 Connor McMichael

Shoutout to Connor McMichael for how hot he's been lately and with nine points in his last seven games with five goals and four assists. After a laackluster second period, McMichael struck with a backhander at 4:21 with help from Trevor van Riemsdyk and tom Wilson.

McMichael told the media via Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post:

We're just putting it all together as a group. There's a lot of unselfish guys. You see a lot of guys laying their bodies on the line to block pucks. ..Guys are just doing whatever it takes to win, and we're having fun. We all love each other, so it's been a lot of fun."
Connor McMichael

Through nine games this season, the Caps have scored four or more goals six times which was only accomplshed last season 24 times out of 82 games. But more importantly hockey and sports are fun in this town once again. In the end that's all that matters.

#2 Alex Ovechkin

Alex Ovechkin notched his fifth goal of he season late in the game to send the Halloween crowd home happy. He also assisted on a goal from Aliaksei Protas prior to that. He also had an assist on the Tom Wilson power play goal to get things started for the Caps in the second period.

Ovechkin has scored three goals in his last two games and needs 37 goals to bypass Wayne Gretzky for first on the NHL's all time goals list. The outburst came in the second period but Spencer Carbery would end up giving credit to the third period.

In a highly competitive environment, these guys want to win. They look at each other and go, 'Oh yes, this is how we've got to do it. Cut the crap, let's go.' And that's exactly what you saw was our character in our group come through in that third period. We weren't just going to let the game slip away.

#1 Tom Wilson

The Capitals are 7-2-0 to round out the month of October which marks the third highest point percenteage recorded by a single October in franchise history, per Capitals Public Relations. A big part in the Caps success is Tom Wilson and he ended a power play drought last night.

The Caps entered puck drop 0 for 20 on the power play but Wilson ended it on a tip in at 3:21 in the second period. His six goals in nine games lead the Caps. He would finish with a Gordie Howe Hat Trick as he assisted on McMichael's goal and ended the night with a fight against Josh Anderson.

It's funny. It's been a long career. My first goal and my first assist were in the same game, and Matt Carkner grabbed me with like 10 seconds left in the game. I was 18 or 19 years old and (he) said, 'Do you want one?' I said, "I just want to celebrate my first goal.' Fun to get that one under the belt.
Tom Wilson

Next up for the Capitals is a doubleheader this weekend. A home and home if you will with both games at 5 p.m. First up is a home matchup with the Columbus Blue Jackets then they hit the road and take on the Carolina Hurricanes the next night. Both games air on Monumental Sports Network.
