The Washington Capitals defeated the New Jersey Devils by a final of 6-5 in overtime. Here were the top 3 studs in the win. Of course number one is an easy choice but what about the other two?

#3 Connor McMichael

Connor McMichael gave the Caps their first lead of the night in that topsy turvy of a first period. He had a snap shot at 10:14 as Tom Wilson and Jakob Chychrun assisted there. McMichael also assisted on first Caps goal of the night which came from Tom Wilson.

McMichael explained the goal to Mike Vogel of WashCaps.com:

That's something that we've been preaching really hard in training camp, getting bodies to the interior and funneling pucks low, even if it's off the net. We want to be the first ones on loose pucks, and to wear teams down. I thought our line especially has done a really good job of that so far, through the first four games.

McMichael would add in the same story, "Obviously it's not the prettiest win for us. But I think it shows a lot of character, especially on the road. We didn't back down, we kpet our foot on the gas, and we're able to find a way to win."

#2 Dylan Strome

Dylan Strome scored his third goal of the season at 12:33 of the second period to give the Caps a comfortable 5-3 lead. He also assisted on Alex Ovechkin's goal in the opening period and Tom Wilson's game winning goal in overtime.

Strome explained the win in more detail to Vogs

We kind of locked eyes (in reference to Trevor van Riemsdyk). I figured he was kind of off balance and figured he was going to go for a stick. He put it right in the wheelhouse; I just had to tip it home.
Dylan Strome

Strome so far this season has three goals and four assists for seven points. He also has a plus/minus of plus two. Strome also has a corsi for percentage of 50.48 percent, a 57.08 percent expected goals for percentage and a high danger chances for percentage of 68.18 percent via Natural Stat Trick.

Strome might be the new Oshie in terms of being the heart and soul of the team. He's definitely a spark plug that keeps the locker room going and now is one of their hottest offensive weapons.

#1 Tom Wilson

Tom Wilson had two goals including the game winner in overtime and like we mentioned in our game story he both opened the game and closed the game out easily earning MVP of the night.

Wilson's first goal came at 6:01 of the opening period off a feed from McMichael. He then scored in overtime to win the game at the four minute mark.

Wilson's advanced stats so far this season inlcude a 47 percent corsi for percentage, a 58.69 expected goals for percentage and a 54.55 percent high danger chances for percentage per Natural Stat Trick.

McMichael added this about the win:

Obviously it's not the prettiest win for us. But I think it shows a lot of character, especially on the road. We didn't back down, we kept our foot on the gas, and we're able to find a way to win.

A lot of swings in the game. Momentum, losing momentum, and I felt like we really ran out of gas late in that third period. They're obviously pushing, but I felt like we did not have any legs left, and so we couldn't gap up, we couldn't get to loose pucks, we couldn't win anything on the forecheck, so now it was just hang on for survival. And even to get that game into overtime (was an achievement), because we just didn't have anything in the tank left.
