#3 Alex Ovechkin

Alex Ovechkin scored his 890th career goal on Sunday in a loss to the Buffalo Sabres, leaving him five goals away from passing Wayne Gretzky for the most goals in NHL history. With 37 goals in 57 games this season which is good for a rate of 0.65 goals per games played. Ovi is on pace for 42 goals which would get him the record a season's end.

Ovechkin has more goals on the road with 453 than at home with 437 during his 20 year career. He is the NHL's all time leader in road goals and scored 19 of his 37 away from Capital One Arena. There's nine regular season games remaining beginning tonight at TD Garden and six of those games are on the road.

#2 Aliaksei Protas

Aliaksei Protas has been a pleasant surprise this season with a huge breakout campaign. He picked up another shorthanded goal to reach the 30 goal mark for the first time in his four NHL seasons. He's the first Capital with as many as three shorthanded goals in a season since Evgeny Kuznetsov had three in 2021-22. The last time someone on the Caps scored more than three shorthanded goals in a season was Chris Clark as he had four in 2006-07.

None of Protas goals came on the power play in fact his only power play point came on an assist. It's rare to score 30 goals without the man advantage in this day and age which makes Pro's season all the more impressive.

#1 Ryan Leonard

The news we've all been waiting for finally happened Monday when Ryan Leonard signed an NHL contract. The 20 year old just finished his sophomore season at Boston College and recorded 30 goals and 19 assists for 49 points in 37 games with the Eagles.

Leonard would become the first player to post back to back 30 goal seasons at the NCAA level since Cam Atikinson did it in 2009-10 and 2010-11. Last night Alex Ovechkin did the true team captain thing and took him out. Tonight he makes his NHL debut as he joins the team at a location low and behold not too far from where he had his classes.
