#2 Logan Thompson
Logan Thompson turned 28 years old today and he will get the nod tonight against the Calgary Flames. In his previous outing in a win against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday, Thompson stopped 29 of 32 shots faced to extend his point streak to 16 games with a 13-0-3 record.
Thompson's 16 game point streak is the second longest by a goaltender in franchise history, behind Jose Theodore's 19 in 2009-10. Over his last 10 starts, Thompson has a record of 8-0-2 with a 1.97 goals against average, a .920 save percentage and two shutouts.
In 32 games this season, Thompson has posted a record of 25-2-5 with a 2.25 goals against average, a .920 save percentage and two shutouts in 32 games this season. The six foot four, 207 pound goaltender ranks tied for second in the NHL in save percentage and fourth in goals against average as well as wins.
The 28 year old starts tonight against his hometown team and recently on Jan. 27 the Caps re-signed him to a six year, $35.1 million contract extension. He was named the NHL's Second Star for the month of January. Thompson posted 8-0-1 record in eight starts and nine appearances during the month with a 1.48 goals against average, a .947 save percentage and two shutouts.
Among goaltenders with 125 or more games played since the start of the 2021-22 season, Thompson ranks fifth in the NHL in save percentage (.914) and seventh in goals against average (2.57).
The only goaltenders with a lower goals against average than Thompson in that span are Linus Ullmark (2.34), Jake Oettinger (2.50), Igor Shersterkin (2.50), Connor Hellebuyck (2.51), Jacob Markstrom (2.55), and Jeremy Swayman (2.56).
In his career against the Calgary Flames, Thompson has a record of 4-2-0 with a 2.39 goals against average and a .932 save percentage in six games. What he's done for the Caps since the team acquired him over draft weekend has been nothing short of incredible.
Thompson also seems like a fun guy to be around and him as well as Alaiskei Protas were actually roommates at 2019 Development Camp. Protas was drafted but Thompson was an undrafted invitee. So the two of them were on a podcast together and it's a good watch or listen whenever you get the time. It's available on all your favorite podcast devices as well as the video below.
