The Washington Capitals look to begin their Mentors' Trip in ernest after falling in their last two games on home ice. They'll face a desprate Florida Panthers team that has dropped five of their last six games since starting the season with an 11-3-1 record.
Although the Caps lost two straight on home ice they still lead the league in even strength goals at five on five with 61, four more than the Vegas Golden Knights, who have played one extra game than the Caps have this season.
Following the loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday Spencer and the loss to the Devils Spencer Carbery stressed via MikeVogel of WashCaps.com that the team has to control play more at five on five and while it was accomplished on Saturday night against New Jersey, Carbs wants more production for this tough road trip.
"Get shots through right? I mean, that's an easy one. (New Jersey) had 28 blocks had 28 blocks (Saturday) night. So there's a simple one. Do a better job (at) two things that I looked at this morning: Executing in tight areas. We had some opportunities to make some plays, and we just didn't, for whatever reason, whether it was awareness, knowing that there was an option available, whether it was a missed pass, sloppy with a touch. So there's that. "Spencer Carbery
Per Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post, who was at the optional morning skate at Baptist Health IcePlex, Logan Thompson was the first goalie off the ice.
#3 Logan Thompson
If Logan Thompson is indeed the starter he will bring an 8-1-1 record into tonight's game with a 2.58 goals against average and a .914 save percentage. The goalie is still looking for his first career career shutout as a member of the Caps after recording four on his prior team the Vegas Golden Knights.
