On Thursday night when the Capitals fell in overtime to the Ottawa Senators, Alex Ovechkin scored his 876th career goal. He is now 19 goals shy of passing Wayne Gretzky for the most goals in NHL history. The 39 year old has scored 23 goals in 35 games this season which is good for a clip of 0.66 goals per games played.
Ovi entered the season 42 goals shy of passing Gretzky and has reached that number in 13 of his 19 NHL seasons. His goal in Ottawa a couple of weeks prior on Jan. 16 marked his NHL record 27th career overtime goal and 134th career game winning goal. Ovechkin is two game winning goals shy of passing Jaromir Jagr (135) for the most in NHL history.
Ovechkin has scored eight goals in his last eight games against the Jets including mutli goal performances in Winnipeg's last two visits to Capital One Arena.
