Caps trade defenseman Steve Eminger and a 2008 3rd round pick to the Flyers for the no. 27 overall pick in the 2008 draft.

Eminger made the Capitals opening night roster as an 18 year-old in 2002 after the chose him with the no. 12 overall. He didn’t become the offensive defenseman the Caps hoped he would and they cut bait. The Caps used the no. 27 overall pick to draft John Carlson, a stud on the point. Carlson became the all-time Caps leader for defensemen in games played and points. He was integral in leading them to winning the Stanley Cup in 2018.
