The Washington Capitals have drafted a number of centers in their 52 years history, but these five were by far the best.

3. Bengt Gustafsson - 1978 (4th Round, 55th overall)

Gustafsson is the best player in Caps history that most people don’t remember. He was the best two-way center on the Capitals in the mid-80’s and put up 60 or more points in 6 times in 9 seasons. Drafted in the fourth round in 1978, “Gunner” was an integral part of the 1982-83 Capitals, the first Caps team to make the Stanley Cup playoffs. Gustafsson played the 1986-87 season in Sweden, before resigning with the Caps for two years. He played his last game for the Caps in April 1989 before he retired. Gustafsson finished his NHL career with 196 goals, 359 assists for 555 career points in 629 games played. Gustafsson never advanced past the second round of the playoffs.
