Two Players The Capitals Might Want and One They Can't Have

The Washington Capitals will have to give up a lot to acquire one of these two players, while one will certainly will not be traded to Washington.

The Caps have made no secret about adding to their forward ranks this season. You can read about the more realistic candidates here, but there are also some others who may or may not be on the block.

Mason McTavish

The Ducks took a mighty leap forward this year before getting ousted by Vegas in the second round this month. Former no. 3 overall pick Mason MacTavish wasn’t used much by Duck’s head coach Joel Quinnville. I’m not sure Pat Verbeek would trade a twenty-three year old player with his skills that scores .60 points per game.** The Caps could use a center, especially a young center who has shown offensive potential and plays well on the power play. McTavish averages about 11 power play points for the Ducks over his five seasons in the NHL. Maybe Anaheim wants their first rounder back, the one Washington received in the John Carlson trade, in exchange for the young pivot. Maybe a change of scenery and some time with Coach Carbs would he good for the young Swiss center.
