Washington Capitals down Vancouver Canucks in overtime with two goals from Pierre-Luc Dubois

Pierre-Luc Dubois scored in regulation and overtime as Logan Thompson picked up the win in net in the Washington Capitals 2-1 overtime win over the Vancouver Canucks

The Washington Capitals have improved their point streak to five games thanks to a 2-1 overtime win on Capital One Arena ice over the Vancouver Canucks. For the opposition, they have dropped their fifth contest in their last six games.

At 19:27 the Caps struck first with Pierre-Luc Dubois' sixth goal of the season. Matt Roy notched the primary assist in his 400th career NHL game whlle Connor McMichael had the secondary with his 15th assist. Washington also had the edge in shots 6-3 afer one with the 1-0 lead.

Conor Garland would tie it for the Canucks on a power play goal in the second period at 19:23, getting one past Logan Thompson. Washington would be outshot 21-5 in the middle stanza. In the third period nobody scored as the Caps were outshot 6-2. In overtime the Caps had the edge in shots 5-1 overall but were outshot the entire contest 31-18.

Even so, PLD made sure to send the fans home happy. Aliaksei Protas set him up from behind the net as Dubois charged up towards the net. It was Protas' 18th helper on the season and PLD's seventh goal on the year.

"That was just all 'Pro'," PLD explained to Harvey Valentine of NHL.com:

"I just had to come down and score. Lars (Eller) gave me a really good look before and I missed that one. It was a really nice play by Pro. "

Thompson made 30 saves to improve their record to 27-10-4 along with a 3-0-2 record in their last five games and a nine game home point streak with a 7-0-2 record. He would say this:

"I think it's been our MO all year, just finding a way. It's not going to be easy every night and we haven't had our best of games these last couple, but we're getting points and in the end that's going to go a long way. "
