There's nothing like a live Washington Capitals game and now Caps tickets have become the most expensive ticket in town and for good reason. They're skyrocketing like never before and when he closes in on the record of 895, it might be the most expensive ticket in the NHL.
What the market is saying
Ticketmaster: For the official ticket reseller and marketplace of the Capitals and the NHL, the cheapest ticket for Tuesday's game against the Detroit Red Wings is $47 while the most expensive is $599. This exercise will not include the fees on top of the purchase.
For the next game against the Philadelphia Flyers, they start at $60 and end around $575.00. March 22 against the Florida Panthers is as low as $145 and as high as $4,000. It gets higher as we go along.
March 30 against the Buffalo Sabres is $188 and as high as $584. Then we get to April which is record breaking territory. A lot of us predicted he would get it this month. Only a few of us will get the actual date right.
April 4 against the Chicago Blackhawks, tickets are as low as $218 and as high as $838. On April 10 (my prediction date) against the Carolina Hurricanes, tickets start at $230 and go up to $2,500. April 13 is the last regular season home game and those prices are $198 for starters and up to $7,500.
Gametime: Over on Gametime, an app I like to use when it comes to tickets, tickets to the Caps vs. Red Wings are as low as $42 and as high as $171. On March 20 against the Flyers it's $54 for the cheapest and and $264 down in the lower level.
For March 22 against the Panthers, tickets start at $119 and go up to $338. On March 30 they're $139 up high and $386 down low. Now we get to April.
On April 4 against the Blackhawks, tickets on Gametime go as low as $189 and as high as $494. On April 10 against the Hurricanes they start at $181 and go up to $526 with a nice vidw on the Acela Club Level corner. The regular season home finale against the Blue Jackets starts at $180 and goes up to $463.
Seat Geek: Over on Seat Geek tickets for Tuesday against Detroit start at $63 and as high as $794. For Thursday against Philadelphia it's as low as $56 and as high as $1,595. For Saturday's game against Florida, prices start at $126 and go up to $2,472.
For Sunday March 30 against Buffalo, prices start at $149 and go up to hold your breath... $17,476. That is for a spot in the Ultra Club. Hey you'll have a nice view!
It only gets higher and worse for your wallets from here. Friday April 4 against Chicago starts at $191 and goes up to $17,501. Thursday April 10 against Carolina sarts at $181 and goes up to $17,501. The home finale on Sunday April 13 against Columbus starts at $186 and goes up to $15,739 (for a suite!).
So yeah long story short, it isn't cheap to go to a hockey game and it certainly won't be cheap as Alex Ovechkin closes in on the goal scoring record. So here's hoping if we all can't squeeze into Capital One Arena, every TV in the DMV area (and Russia) shows each Caps game. It's become must see TV. And when he hits 895, wherever we may be, we will all rejoice as one then turn our focus ahead to the playoffs and something bigger than a goal record.
