The Washington Capitals recently announced a special 50th Anniversary Trophy Showcase featuring all NHL Award trophies won in Capitals history on March 7 at the Harry Benson Gallery in Washington, D.C., and on March 8 at MedStar Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, VA. All fans are encouraged to come check it out.
Rock the Red Era Night and more Trophy information
The trophy goes alongisde with the Capitals "Rock the Red" Era Night at Capital One Arena which takes place on Friday March 7 against the Detroit Red Wings. The trophy showcase events in the two locations mentioned above are free to check out while you obvisouly need a game ticket to attend the Caps vs. Red Wings game itself.
The Harry Benson Gallery is located next to Capital One Arena on 7th Street and that showcase will run from 3-8 p.m. in conjunction with the 'Rock the Red Era Night' and the trophies feature the 15 won throughout the Capitals history. Alumni in attendance for "Rock the Red" Era Night which clebrates the Capitals success from 2005-2014 include Karl Alzner, Nicklas Backstrom, Mike Green and Brent Johnson.
The giveaway if you are lucky enough to attend the game is an Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom Duo Bobblehead. The Ovchkin version is like the youthful version of himself his rookie year wearing the classic black Capital dome jersey while Backstrom is in the red jersey with the 50th anniversary emblem in the background.
On Saturday March 8, the trophies will be on display at MedStar Capitals Iceplex from 10:30 a.m. through 1 p.m. where fans are invited to watch a special open practice that features face painters, balloon artists, giveaways and more in addition to the trophies. Alzner, Backstrom, Green, and Johnson will participate in a Rock the Red autograph session from noon to 12:30 p.m.
Practice that day is scheduled for 11 a.m. and the event concludes at 1 p.m. and is free and open to the general public. Here's the list of trophies the Caps won that will be on display:
