25 The Stanley Can
44 years before the Capitals lifted the actual thing, the Caps won a road game on March 28, 1975. It wasn't just any road game. It was their first road win as a franchise as they entered the league as an expansion team in the 1974-75 season calling the old Capital Centre in Landover, Maryland as their home. In that first road win, the young Capitals had jokes.
The Caps fell short in their first 37 attempts on the road but on that glorious day the Caps earned a 5-3 win over the California Golden Seals at the Cow Palace in Oakland. Yes the 37 losses on the road were a league record.
The Caps would get this remarkable win the form of two goals from Nelson Pyatt which included the game winner while Ron Low shined in goal making 17 saves. Speaking of 17 it snapped the Caps 17 game losing streak overall.
After the game the Caps held a spontaneous celebration as they took a garbage can from the visitor's dressing room and praded it around the rink.
