#16 Home protection
The Capitals have won four straight games at home as we're writing this dating back to Dec. 14, 2024 and have allowed a total of five goals in those four games averaging 1.25 goals allowed per game played.
They'll start January with four of their first five games at Capital One Arena beginning on the 2nd against the Minnesota Wild, who are another solid team out West. So far this season, Washington has a 14-4-2 record on home ice and own the seventh highest home point percentage in the NHL at .722.
Glancing at the future there are more upgrades to come to the Arena we call home on 7th and F Street. In December the team announced the big project and one thing that stood out to me was a People's Plaza that in the press release explains that it'll create "a civic space that welcome's guests and activation year-round."
Here's just a snippet from that release:
"The Arena as Performer: The new arena exterior comes alive, transforming into an activated canvas that announces events and engages the revitalized entertainment district of the city. This includes dynamic lighting, media displays, and public art space to ensure the building serves as a beacon, drawing people in and amplifying the District's energy during events. This innovative design blurs the line between venue and performer, making the arena an active participant in the event and a key player in the urban experience. "Monumental Sports and Entertainment
