Early 2022 predictions for Dmitry Orlov
Next up on our Washington Capitals early predictions is Dmitry Orlov. Training camp is a few weeks away and Orlov will be a key defenseman that’s returning.
In case you missed it, we looked at the potential top pairs Martin Fehervary and John Carlson. Orlov will be expected to be on the middle pair alongside Nick Jensen.
Orlov had really good advanced stats. In fact his Corsi For percentage was the best among Caps full time defensemen in the regular season. It came out to 52.42 percent.
Orlov’s Expected Goals For percentage came out to 52.02 percent while his High Danger Chances For percentage clocked in at 49.02 percent, per Natural Stat Trick.
Despite Orlov’s advances stats dropping along with the rest of the team in the playoffs, Orlov led all blue liners with a Corsi For percentage of 47.11 percent. His Expected Goals For percentage was at 50.88 percent while his High Danger Chances For percentage came out to 54 percent. Not terrible at all.
Now let’s look at his advanced stats when paired with Nick Jensen. When paired with Jensen their combined Corsi For percentage is at 51.07 percent, their Expected Goals For percentage was at 53.06 percent and their High Danger Chances For percentage came out to 50.50 percent.
Orlov without Jensen in the regular season had a Corsi For percentage of 54.84 percent, his Expected Goals For percentage was at 50.17 percent and his High Danger Chances For dipped to 46.25 percent.
Now for some normal stats. In the regular season Orlov had 12 goals and 23 assists for 35 points. It was another good season for him, the second good season in a row in my opinion and he still hasn’t reached his ceiling yet.
In the playoffs Orlov was held to just one assist. So like many players, Orlov has to step up when it really counts. But losing in the first round is a team effort. Hope for a better result this year.
But this regular season Orlov has the potential to score 15 goals and even if he has 13 that would still be a career high. His career high in assists in 27 from the 2016-17 season. He could probably hover around 25 this season on the second pair with Jensen.
