The Washington Capitals are officially hot.

The Washington Capitals are the best team in the NHL eighteen games into the season with a 13-2-3 record, good for 29 points. They are on a six game winning streak that started against the Vancouver Canucks on the 25th of October. They have also gone nearly one month without losing in regulation. The last loss that came in a 60 minute game was on October 14th against the Avalanche.

This past week wasn’t the busiest week the Capitals have had this season but they put another two wins in the book. There were performances that should be mentioned and just like every week we will do that right here and right now. Without further ado, here are our stars of the week.

Tom Wilson

This week was mostly the top line. The Ovechkin-Backstrom-Oshie trio had a very good week and they carried the Caps to a victory in Florida on Thursday night. The second line had some good stats as well though, even if they weren’t as noticeable. Tom Wilson I thought led the way for the second line.

Wilson had three points in the two games this week but all three of those points were goals. Wilson is continuing his impressive season. Last season was a career year for the bruising forward, he scored 22 goals during the regular season. He has 8 goals in 18 games this year, that puts him on pace for about 35 goals this season if he were to keep up his current pace.

There were not a lot of Capitals who had good advanced stats this week. Wilson unfortunately falls into the bad category. His Corsi% was 40.54% and he had seven scoring chances for and nine against for a 43.75%.

This spot maybe could have gone to Kuznetsov who tied for the team lead in points with 5 but Wilson led the team in goals and was just a little more noticeable in my eyes. Neither had great stats so the edge goes to goals and therefore Wilson gets a spot on our stars of the week.
