The Capitals will likely regress next regular season. That doesn't have to be a bad thing at all. A regression next regular season, could see a progression next playoffs. Who knows.

It is truly the most wonderful time of the year. It is finally time for the Stanley Cup playoffs. So who are three players to keep an eye on vs the Canadiens of Montreal?
In a season that has been nearly flawless, for many reasons, it seems a flaw has started to show itself. And it has shown itself at almost the worst possible time.
Whether it happens in the next several hours against the New York Islanders, at home vs the Blue Jackets, or in the season finale in Pittsburgh (wouldn't that be a sight to behold). Just enjoy it, no matter where it happens.
I'm not trying to get your attention off of that. At the same time I think the season he is having, one of his best in years potentially, deserves some attention that it isn't getting, for obvious reasons.
Could this be a nearly perfect season in Washington? A team that is built insanely well. And teams around them getting hit by injuries. Or underperforming?
Logan Thompson has been incredible. He has been a big part in the Capitals success this season. His great play has helped land a contract extension with the team. He no doubt deserves to be in the discussion for best goalie.
When you watch this team play, they don't seem to have a ton of weaknesses. With that being the case, this could be a really hard team to beat in the playoffs. This could be a Stanley Cup team.
He may not be the GM anymore. But MacLellan still deserves recognition for the General Manager of the year award.
This season Washington is really one of four, maybe five teams who are good on both ends of special teams on the road. You have to say it is a really big reason why they have had so much success on the road this season
A healthy and fresh Ovechkin could be massive for this team and even league in multiple ways. Don't bring him back even 1 day too early.
