T.J. Oshie

It wasn’t his most noticeable week, but this season he hasn’t been very noticeable anyways. It wasn’t his most productive week either. He has scored more points in a week than this past one, but I think there is one pretty big reason why Oshie deserves to be one of our stars of the week.

Oshie only had two points this week. Both however were goals and both goals were big ones. The first came against the Coyotes where he scored the tying goal with just over a minute remaining in that game. The Caps went on to win in a shootout. The second came on Saturday night where he scored, again, the tying goal, this time with less than one minute left. The Caps won that game in a shootout. Deja vu!

Oshie had some good advanced stats as well. He was third in Corsi% this week at 59.13%, he was the second highest forward this week, the best number going to Nic Dowd. Dowd however played just 2 of the four games and Oshie had 49 more minutes played.

His scoring chances for percentage was similar. Oshie’s number in this stat was 66.67% which again was the second best among forwards behind Dowd. Individually, Oshie had the second most scoring chances with 15, that was tied with Jakub Vrana but behind only Alex Ovechkin who had 18 scoring chances.

Oshie also drew three penalties this week which led that team. Defensively Oshie was good too, he led the team in takeaways with six.

He was clutch and he put up good numbers. Without Oshie the Capitals might have had a tough week. If that’s not deserving of one of our stars of the week I’m not sure what does.
