Braden Holtby

The last spot was tough. There probably could have been another player or two to put here but Holtby is a huge reason why the Capitals won at least one of the games this week.

Holtby played two of the four games this week, against the Flyers and against the Bruins. He allowed three goals on fifty-four shots. That means he had a .944 save percentage in the two games he played. The game against the Flyers was especially impressive, the Caps did not play well in Philadelphia and thanks to Holtby they walked out winners.

He didn’t have to be as good against Boston. The Capitals controlled play for most of that game but he still had to make some nice saves and helped the team win in a shootout.

His high danger save percentage was nothing to write home about being right at 75%. That is lower than his season total which is now at .785%. That’s still a number that needs to come up as the season gets later in later.

Holtby has been one of the better Capitals of late however and that was especially the case this week. Thanks to his heroics in Philadelphia and his solid play in Boston I think Holtby is a fine choice for one of our stars of the week.

As I mentioned I thought there could have been a couple of stars this week other than Holtby. We’ll give them an honorable mention. One was Evgeny Kuznetsov. He had four points this week, tied with Carlson for the team lead and three of those points were goals. However as is frequently the case with Kuznetsov it was an up and down week. One game you’d notice him a lot, another it’d be hard to tell he played at all.

The other guy who could be on our list is Brendan Leipsic. He’s a hard player to miss almost every game. He brings energy and has a lot of speed and is a big factor on why the Caps fourth line impresses almost every game. Leipsic was one of five players this week who had two points this week. He also helped the team get 20 scoring chances and was only on the ice for 10 against. He was one of the leaders on the team in scoring chance for% as a result of those numbers.

Hot. Capitals come up clutch, defeat Bruins in shootout. light

It wasn’t a week with a lot of standouts but there were still some good performances. Agree with the stars we named? Have some other suggestions? Be sure to let us know who you think should be one of our stars of the week next week.
