Alex Ovechkin

Maybe we should rename this thing we do weekly to “Two stars of the week, and how did Alex Ovechkin do?” Not as catchy maybe? But that’s what it has turned into for a lot of this season. He makes our list seemingly every week and this week is obviously no different.

This week was another good week stats wise for the great 8. He led the team in points with four points, three of those were goals and the other was a primary assist. Ovechkin is not up to 45 goals for the season and 703 for his career.

His advanced stats were OK, he wasn’t on the ice for the majority of shot attempts, but he was on the ice for more scoring chances. His Corsi rating was 47.42% being on the ice for 46 attempts for and 51 against. He was on the ice for 27 scoring chances for and 24 against for a 52.94 percentage. He was also on the ice for 11 high danger attempts and 5 against, that’s about 68%.

Don’t be too surprised, but Ovechkin led the team in shots this week. He had 12 shots on goals this week, the next highest total was nine by Jakub Vrana. Ovechkin had 21 scoring chances this week, that was more than double the second highest on the team which was 10 by T.J. Oshie. He also had 5 high danger attempts, one behind Oshie for the team lead this week.

When you’re as great a player as he is it shouldn’t be shocking you make a top players of the week list almost every week. That’s exactly what he does. Welcome to stars of the week again Mr. Ovechkin, see you next week most likely.
